J’aime beaucoup les boutique-hotels. Souvenez-vous, je vous avais déjà présenté le Downtown Hotel à Mexico City. Caché au fond d’une cour intérieure entre Porta Ticinese et les Naviglis, The Yard est ma dernière trouvaille milanaise ! Cet hôtel a été aménagé comme une maison d’hôte. Le rez-de-chaussée regorge d’objets vintages, de trophées sportifs, de chapeaux, de skis ! Tout est pensé pour donner l’envie d’y traîner comme des gentlemen le feraient dans un club privé anglais : coin librairie, espace cinéma, lounge bar, etc. Les chambres sont petites mais confortables et en accord parfait avec la décoration du rez-de-chaussée. C’est un peu comme si les propriétaires avaient exposé leurs souvenirs d’enfance et leurs objets précieux rapportés de roadtrips californiens et escapades écossaises ! Le site est bien fait, il vous donnera une idée de l’ambiance et fournit même des informations sur quoi et quand visiter Milan. Si vous ne logez pas à l’hôtel mais que vous êtes de passage, arrêtez-vous simplement pour un verre en fin de soirée. Je vous déconseille la journée car l’intérieur de l’établissement est tout de même très sombre.

I really love boutique hotels. If you remember correctly, I had already written about Downtown Hotel, in Mexico City. Well, hidden at the back of an inner courtyard between Ticinese and the Naviglis, is my latest Milanese find : The Yard! This hotel was set up in a B&B/Guest House kind of way. The ground floor is full of vintage objects, sports trophies, hats, skis, etc! Everything is thought out for people to want to hang out as they would in a gentlemen’s club in England : a library corner, a cinema area, a lounge bar, etc. The rooms are quite small but comfortable, and fit perfectly with the downstairs decoration theme. It’s a bit as though the owners had exposed their childhood memories or brought back precious objects from their Californian trips and Scottish escapades ! The website is nicely done, it will give you an idea of the atmosphere of the place, as well as good information on what you should visit and when in Milan. If you aren’t staying at the hotel but are in the area, stop by for a minute and have a drink towards the end of the day. I wouldn’t recommend going there during the day, because the inside of the establishment is quite dark.
